To infinite, and beyond!

So a couple of weeks ago I signed up for the Infinite Scroll project by Art House Co-op. It was free, and it seemed like fun…they give you a template, you draw something having to do with outer space, and your drawing will be connected with a series of other people’s drawings into one crazy collective space scroll. So yesterday I came back from a late shift at work, and was playing an intense game of Plants vs. Zombies (I’m SUCH a productive member of society, I know), when I thought “Oh hey, I should probably start on that space scroll thingie.” I check my e-mail for the template, and OH CRAP IT’S DUE TOMORROW. Soooo…as a last minute drawing, I came up with this:

It’s a big, geeky universe.

Did I stay up wayyy later than I needed to to throw this together? Probably. But you know what? It’s nothing stellar, but I’d say it turned out pretty okay for a last-minute art project. And to think I thought I was done with all-nighters after I graduated from school. 😛

The Mystery Project: Part 2

I dropped off the last 4 out of 7 pins that I made for my Mystery Project! You can see the first round of drops that I did here. The photos this time around didn’t turn out as well…the public spots I dropped them at were busy, so I had to be quick with the photos!

I have to stop to say something about Pac-Man here. I dropped him off at Onion Creek, one of my favorite hangouts. I specifically chose Onion Creek because they’ve got a table there that’s actually a working Pac-Man console. It would’ve been a PERFECT spot for this, maybe to dangle it from a joystick, or strategically leave it on a clever spot on the screen. So I hop to Onion Creek, walk in…and two dudes are sitting at the table. WTF, I almost never see anyone sitting at the Pac-Man table?! FAIL. It would’ve been kind of awkward for me to interrupt their lunches to drop a lil’ Pac-Man AND photograph it (“uh…I’m just trying to eat my lunch here, what’s with the camera?”), so I just had to leave him behind with a bunch of flyers, haha.

And that’s all, folks! I was tempted to make an owl to leave somewhere on the Rice University campus, but alas, I only have so much time to work with. If you want to make your own pins, here are the patterns that I used:

The Mystery Project: Part 1

Last month, I signed up for Art House Co-op’s Mystery Project. The directions were simple enough. You sign up, and this is what happens:

Every participant will receive a mystery project kit, which includes a free Prismacolor Brush / Fine Art Marker in a surprise color and a secret theme to guide your work. Create a token of inspiration using the tools in your kit — it could be a drawing, a zine, a sculpture, or a collage — then install it in a public place for a stranger to discover.

I thought to myself “Hell, I already do this with my crocheting, sign me up!” I put my name in, and two weeks later I got a nice little package in the mail.

Ok, so I’ll make a small confession here…as much fun as this project sounded, there was a selfish reason for signing up too: they send you a FREE Prismacolor art marker. Those suckers are expensive, yo…we’re talking like $3.50 a pop. You could buy an entire box of Crayolas for that kind of money, but oh what a pretty pretty marker it is:

I won’t be using the marker to its full potential for this particular project (I had other things in mind), but hey, I scored a free Prismacolor art marker to add to my art supply stash! Woohoo! Anyway, so I’ve got the marker, and my theme was “lines were drawn”…I got my crochet hooks going, and added a new ingredient to the mix:

…and made a couple of things to be dropped off somewhere:

“BUT THE MARKER??” you might say. “They sent you a freakin’ free marker, why didn’t you use it??” Don’t you worry, I did. My theme was “lines were drawn,” so while it was a loose interpretation, I drew some lines nonetheless.
