Just thought I’d post a quick progress photo of something I’m working on. So far he looks like a generic elf-dude.

In other news, I got Skyrim last week. And holy crap, it’s every bit the digital crackrock everyone’s hyped it up to be. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna get back to destroying my social life while fighting dragons.

I found out that I had Monday off, so I decided to take a last minute trip to Austin to visit some friends. And because I apparently have a crocheting problem, I decided to whip up a critter for adoption while I was at it too.

Coffee cup reprise.

Forgive the crappy phone camera quality. I left this lil’ guy at a popular coffeeshop named after a composer. As usual, I’m awaiting responses!

Critters across borders

No breaking news today (as if crocheting could bring anything groundbreaking to begin with, ha!), just thought I’d mention that I’ve added a new page: Critters across borders.

It’s a map marking where my adopted critters have gone! So far they’ve all stayed in North America (one ended up in Mexico!)…maybe someday I’ll be able to expand that map.

Last week I started on the unibrowed Brobee from Yo Gabba Gabba (or is it “Yo! Gabba Gabba”? I don’t know) for Kim’s little niece. BEHOLD! THE FINISHED UNIBROW-NESS!!

Put yo’ hands up in the aiiiiir, and wave ‘em like you just don’t caaaaare!!

Little Brobee is ready to rock! I looked for some clips when I started out to do some research, just to see if there were any must-have characteristics that I should include. I ended up finding this:

And now I can’t get that stupid song out of my head. Damn you, Brobee, and that party in your tummy!!

Don’t underestimate the unibrow

I’ve been working on a Brobee from Yo Gabba Gabba for Kim’s 18 month old niece. I don’t watch the show, but I can say this much…

…that unibrow makes a HUGE difference. Hoping to have a finished product by the end of the week!

So I’m sure most of you have noticed that pretty much all of my lil’ critters have these lil’ beady eyes:

Yessss…..gaze into those beady lil’ eyes!!

Those eyes are made possible by little plastic safety eyes like these:

The black part is inserted into the weaving of the crochet work, and then a washer is snapped on so that it’ll fasten the eye in place. It makes them pretty much impossible to pry off once the washers have been snapped on. So logically, 2 eyes = 2 washers to go with them.

Perfectly paired!

Sooo…imagine the “oh crap” moment I had when I recently opened up my crochet box o’ love (ok, so I don’t REALLY call it that, but just humor me here) and found this:

So I’ve got 2 washers left. No problem, that just means that I’m running down to the last of my eye supply. Two washers mean I should have two – WHERE ARE THE EYES? This is the part that worries me. Most likely I’ve misplaced the corresponding eyes, and they’re rolling around somewhere in the apartment. The scenario I’d rather not think about is that somewhere there’s a critter with UNFASTENED eyes. I’ve checked all the critters that I’ve kept for myself, and all of their eyes are tightly attached, so if that’s the case, then it’d have to be on one of my critters at large. So uh…if anyone out there is in possession of one of my critters, DON’T PULL THE EYES OUT. I can’t imagine anyone doing this deliberately, but I’m throwing it out there anyway. Don’t yank ‘em out…at least not until I’ve located the lost eyes. Then you can yank to your heart’s content (minds out of the gutters, everyone).

Yesterday was a cold and rainy day in Houston, but that didn’t stop me from dropping off a couple of holiday-related crocheted goodies while I ran a few last-minute holiday errands.

And a lop-sided snowflake. It was SUPPOSED to look something like this, but something went awry in the process, haha.

I left the snowflake at Target, hanging tight in the candy aisle:

And the lil’ snowman sat on top of some tea canisters at Central Market:

I REALLY wanted to leave the snowman in the seasonal aisle next to some snowman-shaped cookies, but there were too many people crowding that area, so the drop would’ve been too obvious. That, and I happened to run into one of my regulars from my old job while I was scoping out the area, so I was already caught one way or another, haha. Either way, I’m awaiting responses as usual! Happy holidays, everyone!

Linda’s in town! I really don’t get to see her enough, but when we do meet up, we make it count. Since she was in Houston for the holidays, we met up yesterday to play catch-up and exchange gifts. She handed me a small box and this is what was inside:

They’re mini-business cards! She took existing photos of my critters and had them made them into little cards complete with all of my Geeky Hooker info. And they’re the perfect size for tagging onto my lil’ critters the next time I leave them around for adoption! I hand-write all of my adoption cards, so it gets kind of tedious to rewrite my contact information over again each time. Things just got a little snazzier around here at Hooker Headquarters. I can’t wait to start using them!

Crappy beginnings

Haven’t made anything lately, but I thought I’d post the first thing I EVER crocheted:

It was SUPPOSED to be a round little ball, intent on becoming a lil’ teddy bear head. But since I clearly didn’t know what I was doing, it somehow went from being round to a mis-shapen, oblong mess. To put it bluntly, it looks like a turd. AWESOME. But hey, we all have to start somewhere. I guess I could’ve made it into a Mr. Hanky the Christmas Poo?

Teddy bear, Christmas poo, close enough. Anyway, crochet projects have been slow-going lately, because I’ve loaded myself with too many things to do…Christmas shopping, finishing (well, more like starting) my Sketchbook Project sketchbook, taking charge of my family’s thanksgiving cookbook, etc. Oh, and I got Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Soooooo….I’m also voluntarily putting a lot of things on hold because I’m busy trying to save the world. Hopefully I’ll have some critters in production soon enough!
