안녕!

There’s something prowling about…

Rainicorn - horn

…it’s Lady Rainicorn!

Rainicorn - head

She’s just strolling along, making new friends.

Rainicorn - full

Rainicorn - danbo

After a long day of playtime, rainicorns like to take a nap.

Rainicorn - sleep

Going to Dallas this weekend to visit a friend I haven’t seen in a while. She recently gave birth to a gorgeous baby boy named Jacob. I figured with a strapping young lad named Jake in the household, it only seemed appropriate to have a Lady Rainicorn around too. 🙂 And with that, I leave you all with this video:

“This DOES compute!”

My friend Katie does some pretty awesome stuff with a needle, thread, and some felt.

Daria!

My hands hurt just THINKING about how much work must have gone into this one.

A while back, she asked me if I was interested in doing an art trade. We listed off each other’s geeky interests, and based on those interests, we sent each other a surprise item! Here was the hefty list I sent her:

Video games: Zelda, Katamari Damacy, Super Mario Bros
Movies: My boyfriend’s a Star Wars fanatic. I’m particularly fond of Tarantino movies (Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs are my favorite). Also love Monty Python & the Holy Grail, This is Spinal Tap, and my absolute favorite movie is Amelie, but that’s more French than nerdy, haha.
TV: Adventure Time! And lately I’ve been religiously keeping up with Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. And I LOVE Downton Abbey, but I think that’s kinda straying from the nerdy category, haha.

Last week I posted about how I sent her a little crocheted Frida Kahlo. Shortly after I sent out her little Frida, I received this in the mail:

It’s BMO! The crazy little hand-held video game console that also serves as a video player, a camera, a detective (see “BMO Noire“), and well…he/she/it’s just a helpful little thing. I love it!

note

I love that she took my interests in video games and Adventure Time and put them into one awesome piece.

She even threw in this sweet little flower ring!

It’ll go perfectly with my Bat-Finn and Robin-Jake!

Same ___ time, same ___ channel!

Is it the caped crusader?

And his boy wonder?

OR IS IT ANOTHER UBER-AWESOME ADVENTURING DUO?!?

A while ago I made a Finn & Jake for an art trade with Toygami. Weeks after sending off my crocheted Finn & Jake, I got a package from sunny California, and I couldn’t have been happier with the contents. This ain’t your elementary school playtime origami, yo. Come on, it’s freakin’ Finn and Jake. DRESSED AS BATMAN AND ROBIN. YESSSSS.

The details on these guys are awesome. I’d go nuts if I had to painstakingly carve out Jake’s ears, or to cut out the little spaces between the spikes on Bat-Finn’s gauntlets.

RESPECT THE EMBLEM.

It was a super fun trade, and I couldn’t have been happier to do a great trade-off with such a talent. 🙂 You can check out his other works here. And if you want a Toygami of your own (holidays are coming up soon, guys!), you can contact him at Toygami [at] yahoo.com, or send him a tweet @Toygami for other inquiries!

WHAT TIME IS IT?!?!

…why, it’s freakin’ ADVENTURE TIME!!!

Finn is finally together with his bestie Jake!

They spent some time adventuring around my apartment, but now they’re on their way to California to hang out with Jovee Edwards of Toygami. Can’t wait to see the results of the paper awesomeness that he’ll be sending my way for this exchange!

You can check out more of his work here. Seriously some cool stuff being made with paper there. 🙂

Is it Adventure Time yet?

No, not quite. But only because I’ve only got half of everyone’s favorite adventuring duo done so far. I was going to wait until I finished Jake to post these photos, but dammit, I’m pretty happy with how Finn turned out, so PICTURES FOR ALL!

It’s Finn the human! IN ALL HIS SKINNY, SPINDLY GLORY. Click on the photo to see him in super full-sized glory.

Finn wouldn’t be complete without his adventuring backpack.

Which has room to tote a few friends along while he waits on Jake to show up.

More photos to come once I finish up Jake. Then they’ll be sent off to Toygami in exchange for some Adventure Time themed awesomeness of his own making. Art trades = awesome. 🙂

What’s the hooker making? Here’s the answer.

Last week I posted a photo of a bunch of yarn as a hint to what I was making for an art trade with Toygami:

I switched out some of the blue yarns, but here’s the first progress photo (and the answer to what I’m making!):

It’s Finn and Jake from Adventure Time! Right now Finn’s rocking the quadriplegic look, but he’ll have some limbs attached to him soon enough. In the meantime, I leave you all with this SUPER EPIC moment from Adventure Time:

SO LUSH. SO SHINY. And far too epic for me to recreate in real life, because the awesomeness would blow my face off. Sorry folks! 😉
